Dance Division

Information:

The following is a mission statement developed by Dance Division’s officers of 2003. The mission of the Dance Division of VAHPERD is to promote dance as an art form, as an integral part of a comprehensive enrichment or physical education program, and to help increase the quantity and quality of dance taught throughout Virginia. Increasing the awareness, involvement, communication, and education of teachers in both private and public institutions at all levels allows us to accomplish this goal.

VAHPERD Dance News

• For the November Convention we have approximately 11 presentations ranging. Some of the topics include dance history, ballroom, folk, choreography, and clogging.

• We had several people nominated for dance awards this year.

• Jeri and I have been working on getting a presentation and/or master class by the Richmond Ballet and also by John Gamble from UNCG. These are still in the works.

• Kaleidoscope applications are still a work in progress as the new form has to be approved by the board May 3. If you have a group or are interested in performing please contact Jeri Lloyd Jeri.Lloyd@loudoun.k12.va.us

• Thank you to Rodney and Annette for seeing that we will have a Marley floor again for Kaleidoscope.

• Thank you to Jeri Lloyd for compiling all the information for the programs and getting the Dance portion of the convention organized.

• Brush up on your Ballroom dance skills. Rumor has it that there will be another Ballroom competition this year.

• Please feel free to share this with anyone that you think would be interested in being a part of VAHPERD….someone that could present….someone that could perform.
