With the uncertainty of what HPE will look like next school year, VAHPERD presents LIVE Summer PD Series. Every Wednesday in July we will host a virtual session to help us pivot and offer support as we prepare for the fall! These are FREE live sessions and you do not need to be a member to sign up. If you are unable to participate in the live session, a video of the session will be posted on the members side of the VAHPERD website. Recertification points will be offered and a certificate will be sent to those who attend the webinar.

"Coming Back from Covid: Prep for the Fall"

Are you concerned about the what/where/how of teaching once we go back to school in the Fall? Join Stevie Gray has he goes through tips, approaches, and possible challenges for the return to Health and Physical Education after COVID-19. This session will include strategies for a totally virtual (distance learning) return, an in-person/on-site return with physical distancing limitations, and a hybrid return.

Stevie Ray Gray is an elementary Health and Physical Education teacher in Henrico County, Virginia. He has been teaching elementary HPE for 12 years. He lives in Chester, Virginia with his wife (an elementary 4th grade teacher) and two – soon to be three – sons.

Jen Mulrine has been teaching Health and PE for NNPS (Newport News Public Schools) for 15 years. She loves having the opportunity to impact her student's life by sharing her passion for movement! She does this through building quality relationships, creating engaging lesson plans, and displaying a positive attitude. Her peers have seen the difference she has made in her students' lives. She has been awarded Teacher of the Year at both elementary schools she has taught. She is also a model and mentor teacher for the division. She is currently completing her last requirements towards her M.Ed. in Administration at Liberty University.

Lori Kandel is an Elementary Physical Education Specialist at Dutrow Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia. She has been teaching for 34 years. She has an extensive background in Early Childhood education. Lori has created Curriculum for the Elementary classroom as well as for Physical Education. She was named Teacher of the Year twice for her school.

Taking on the Whole Child: A Student Wellness Approach

During this session, we will explore EVERFI's suite of no-cost resources that focus on SEL and Prevention Education. Teachers will walk away with materials and best practices to implement EVERFI's standards-aligned resources in the fall, with information on how to support learners in both the remote learning or in-person setting.

Tools for Teaching PE and Dance Using Google Classroom

As a Google Certified Educator, Level 1, Barb Maclam is excited to share her ideas and knowledge of teaching Physical Education and Dance through Google Classroom.

Barbara Maclam has 23 years of teaching experience that includes PK-12 Health, Physical Education, and Dance. Additionally, she has experience supervising student teachers in the PHETE and the Dance Education Programs at James Madison University. Barbara currently teaches K-12 Health and Physical Education at the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents. She is passionate about quality Physical Education and Dance Education as evident through her leadership at local, state, and national levels.



Net Generation School Tennis Physical Education Training

This session of the School Tennis workshop is designed to help Physical Education Teachers gain a better understanding of the Net Generation Curriculum and use it effectively in their Physical Education Classes. The curriculum was co-created with SHAPE America to meet the standards in Physical Education classes. This workshop will enable Physical Education Teachers to deliver, manage, and organize classes in a fun and engaging manner.
